JOINT STATEMENT ON THE ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE MINISTER OF VETERANS AFFAIRS REGARDING THE "HELMETS TO HARDHATS" PROGRAM

     The Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping (CAVUNP), the Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans Association (CPVA), the Gulf War Veterans Association of Canada (GWVAC) and the NATO Veterans Association of Canada (NVOC) jointly endorse the Government of Canada initiative "Helmets to Hardhats" program for veterans and releasing members of the Canadian Forces and the Reserves, which was announced today by the Minister of Veterans Affairs.

     Transition from military to civilian life is an extremely important and often difficult issue and by connecting the highly skilled veterans with employers in the private sector benefits both the industry and the veterans, and by extension their families and the community.

     As this program gains momentum it is expected to encourage other businesses to get on board and become involved in seeking our well trained veterans to fill vacancies in their companies.
